Learn how to create SEO friendly content for your blog post. FREE SEO posts Checklist included!

Today, I want to talk to you about SEO.

What the heck is it and how exactly you should use it so that your blog will get noticed through the googles search engines.

I know that for some of you the term SEO sounds kinda big and scary.

You might want to give up learning the beauty of it even before you try…

but trust me, It’s not that complicated and hard as it sounds.

What exactly is SEO and what exactly you need to know about it

From Wikipedia:

Seo or SEO may refer to:

Search engine optimization, the process of affecting the visibility of a website or a web page in a search engine‘s unpaid results. “

That means that if you want your blog posts to show up in google’s organic search results (I.E. the 1st page of google), you must create posts that are friendly to google so that your posts will get ranked high.

Don’t worry, I am here to help you understand what exactly you need to do and how to implement it into your blog posts.

You will want to bookmark this post so that in the future you can easily access this post and remember how exactly to create google friendly content (Or you can simply download my FREE SEO checklist below).

At first, It will take you a few posts to remember what exactly is needed to be done to optimize your posts….but in the long run, you will know exactly what to do in your sleep! You will be able to do it easily and quickly 🙂 on autopilot.
Woo Hoo!

cool!
Are you ready to dig deep into the “minds” of the of google crawlers?! 😉

Install Yoast SEO plugin

Before we start it’s important to install the Yoast SEO plugin on your blog. This will help you with editing your SEO. If you don’t have it installed yet, go ahead and install it before the class begins.

Step 1 - Know the keyword you want to target in your blog post.

When you create a blog post, you will want to decide on a keyword that you want to target.

For example, you are interested in creating a blog post about creating a blog from scratch.  The keyword you will want to target here is: “How to create a blog from scratch”.

You should aim to target a keyword that has 3-5 words in it (the more the better!). This is called Long Tail Keywords (in the SEO world) the more words you have in your keyword phrase you will be less competition and your post will get ranked easily.

For example, if you want to try and rank on google’s 1st page using the target keyword “create a blog” – you will find out that it is very hard to try and rank a new blog post with this keyword phrase. why? Because there are already many other blogs that have gained googles trust and it will be very hard to compete against them.

Step 2 - Check the keyword in google's keyword planner

I will stick to the example above.

This step will help you find out if the keyword you are interested in is too competitive or not. You will want to use keywords that have “Low” competition. (bellow is an example of “Low” competition.)

o.k. Let’s head to Google’s Keyword Planner (If you don’t have a Google AdWords account, now is the time to create one. It’s free. You will need to create it to use the keyword planner tool)

Log in to your google’s AdWords account.

If you can’t find the keyword planner here is a screenshot that will help you find it.

Type in your keyword phrase you are interested to target on your post. (You will want to set the “Targeting” to be “United States” “English” and “Google” as you can see in the image below.

Awesome!

Now you will have a list of keyword ideas that you can try and rank for.

If you have this message on top of the page, simply click on dismiss!

You don’t have to pay for anything!

Now you want to look for “Low” competition keywords that can be used in your post.

If you don’t see any “Low” competition keywords simply click on the “Competition” box twice and it will show you the “Low” competition keywords you can target in your post.

Cool!

I hope you have 1-3 keywords that look great to use in your blog post.

Remember, The lower the competition the better, because it will be much easier to rank for! This way you can easily get 100 or more new organic users to your blog and they will fall in love with you! 😉

Step 3 - Create a permalink (blog title) with your keyword phrases

The permalink is the link that will be created for your post once you hit “Publish”.

The link is a permanent link to your post or your page.

To make an SEO friendly permalink try to make it short and with your keyword in it.

Just click on the “Edit” button to change the permalink.

Remember – the link is permanent and if you change your older posts permalinks – then the old links will be “broken” and people won’t see anything from that link!

They will get a 404 error page.

Make sure you don’t change the older posts permalinks, but if you do decide to change then remember to use a 301 redirection.

Step 4 - How to use the keyword in your post

When creating a new blog post you want to sound as natural as possible!

Don’t try and push your keywords into the post just to get ranked on google. eventually, google will notice that! And that will harm your rankings and your blog.

Here is how to use the keyword in your blog post:

  • Put the keyword in your post title
I know that it might not fit into a great and attractive post title.
So the trick here is to change the title with the Yoast SEO plugin. You can find it underneath your post editing area.
  • Click on the title you see and edit your title that will contain your keyword. This won’t change your post title on your blog. This will only change the title for the search engines. make it friendly to them.

  • Insert your keyword into the “Meta Description
The meta description is a short description of your post.

You ALWAYS want to add your keyword into that description to make it SEO friendly.

When using the Yoast SEO plugin you can easily change the meta description.

It will let you know if your description is too short or too long. Aim to use about 150 characters. Here is an example using the Yoast SEO plugin to change the title and the meta description

  • place the keyword in your blog post
You will want to use your keyword a few times in the post.

Remember to keep it naturally! Don’t try to place it in places where it doesn’t fit.

The recommendation is to use the keyword at the beginning of the post and also at the end of the post. ( try to use it in the first 200 words of your post and to use it also in the last 200 words of your post)

Step 5 - Begin your post with an intro

Include an introduction at the beginning of your post (that contains your keyword). Don’t start your post with an image. I admit I use to do that too.

Step 6 - Use H2 and H3 heading's

H2 and H3 tags are very much liked by google. By default, the titles of the posts are H1 tags.

You want to create an easy and fun readable post as possible. when using H2 and H3 tags it organizes the post and makes it look easier to read.

Remember – to make your post friendly to the crawlers you will want to include your keyword in an H2 tag.

Step 7 - Make your images SEO friendly

By adding a title and an alt text to your image you will make them SEO friendly.

When you upload an image that you want to insert into your post, make sure to name your image file with your keyword in it. This way it will be SEO friendly.

After you upload it to your blog you will want to edit the image and create a short description which includes your keyword and put it in the “Alt Text” box.

(If you would like you can simply use the title of the image and place it into the alt text box.)

Step 8 - Create interlinks

This means creating links in your post that will link to other useful posts on your blog. (Only link to relevant related posts! Don’t try to just insert unrelated links to unrelated posts!)

If you have other posts that are going to be useful for your reader then it’s recommended to create a link linking to that post.

I usually link to other related blog posts at the end of each post I write.

for example:

After you created your SEO friendly post you will want to index your post on google so that your post will get indexed.
If you would like to know how exactly you should do so,

Read my post on how to get your post indexed on google

That’s it ya’ll!!
